On the opening weekend of the celebrations for Redbourn 900, six of St. Mary’s more “senior” bell ringers rang 900 changes of Grandsire Doubles and Plain Bob Doubles before the Palm Sunday evensong service.
The band averaged 63 years of age and between them they have accumulated 225 years of bell ringing experience. Three members of the band, listed below, have been bell ringers for over 50 years*.
Treble George Reading*
2nd Mary Rixon*
3rd Andrew Farnham
4th Diana Reading*
5th Liz Middleton (Conductor)
Tenor Pauline Ridgwell
Bell ringing is a great example of an activity that can be enjoyed by all age groups and allows people to serve the church in a very special way. We hope to achieve more 900 changes during the year with a band of young people and others new to the art of bell ringing.
