Why Celebrate?
In 1110 St Mary’s Church was founded. This gave a real sense of identity to the local community which, it is believed, then consisted of only some 27 people. These celebrations in 2010 are not only about the founding of the church but also about the development of our community. This is a community which has emerged, after some 900 years, into the beginning of the 21st Century, with over 5000 residents living in a vibrant and diverse village, in beautiful countryside, with great warmth and a fantastic community spirit, a spirit reflected in winning the People Category of the 2009 Hertfordshire Village of the Year Competition.
How are we to Celebrate?
A village-wide consultation earlier in the year led to numerous exciting and varied suggestions for Redbourn900. Thank you all for your imaginative ideas from which we have now formulated our Programme of Events including, amongst much else:
- A Rural Day where we can explore, and learn about, our wonderful surroundings
- A Carnival and Family Sports Day
- Redbourn’s Got Talent!!!
- A day of Street Parties
- A week long Music Festival with live music and a Flower Festival
- A great Finale Weekend including Celebrity Cricket and parties for young and old
Beyond 2010
There is a determination to leave lasting benefits for the community we celebrate:
- It is hoped that a number of Village Trails will be established focussing on the Common and our 2 rivers.
- A Business Forum will be set up to bring together the local business community.
- Support will be provided to a café-style Drop in Centre on the Common.
- Improvements to the facilities for the Youth of the village are planned including:
- The development of international links for young people
- Enhancements to the Youth and Recreation Centres
- Making changes to the village playgrounds to make them more imaginative and stimulating for children
- Providing accommodation for a Community Youth Worker
Your Support
The programme is exciting, challenging and, with your support, achievable.
Before we go out to the wider community we are offering you an opportunity to sponsor a main event or activity forming part of such an event, thus being seen to support your local community.
Practical help will also be needed to help organise and run the events.
If you would like to discuss sponsorship or to offer other help please call the Steering Committee on 0843 2899 360 or contact the website at www.redbourn900.co.uk
These are ambitious goals; we need your help and imagination to achieve them. Let’s celebrate and leave a legacy for future generations living in Redbourn. |
